iBasis Named Finalist for Best Wholesale Carrier in World Communication Awards 2008

iBasis (NASDAQ: IBAS), a KPN affiliate, has been named as a finalist in the Best Wholesale Carrier category for the World Communication Awards 2008 (WCA), one of the most trusted, independent global communications industry events of its kind. The WCA, organized by Terrapinn Media in coordination with its news publication, Total Telecom, recognizes the companies and individuals responsible for the innovations, achievements and great new services that are helping to build tomorrows industry.

iBasis has been selected as a finalist for the past three WCA events 2005, 2006, 2007 and this most recent industry recognition for the 2008 awards follows major transactions with carriers Royal KPN N.V. and TDC. Including its acquisition of KPN Global Carrier Services, iBasis carried approximately 24 billion minutes of voice over IP (VoIP) traffic in 2007, making it one of the three largest international voice carriers in the world. Soon thereafter in 2008, iBasis gained an estimated additional 2 billion minutes of annual international traffic in a five-year strategic outsourcing deal with TDC.

Criteria for the WCAs Best Wholesale Carrier category in 2008 included a focus on innovative business models, strategic partnerships and technology differentiators for the worlds most successful wholesale carriers. In addition to iBasis, finalists for the award are among the worlds leading wholesale carriers and also include AT&T, BT, Belgacom International Carrier Services, Tata Communications and TeliaSonera International Carrier. The winner will be announced on November 26 at the WCAs Annual Gala event in London.
