Zanes Law Group Launches a Swimming Pool Safety Campaign Ahead of Summer

Thousands of people lose their lives each year in swimming pools and these deaths are 100 percent preventable, ZanesLaw.com reports

Thousands of lives are lost every year in swimming pools across America. Sadly, every one of these deaths is preventable, yet they still occur. Zanes Law Group is launching a swimming pool safety education campaign to inform individuals in the Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona area how to be safe and keep children safe this summer around swimming pools. Simple steps such as installing a pool alarm can be of great help in eliminating any risk associated with the pool.

"The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reports between 2005 and 2014 there was an average of 3,536 unintentional drowning fatalities every year in the United States. Drowning remains the number one cause of death for children between the ages of one and four in the state, and individuals of any age are at risk when around a swimming pool. The number reported by the CDC doesn't include incidents involving swimming pools either, thus more people are injured as the result of this common feature found at many homes," Doug Zanes of Zanes Law - Phoenix states.

Arizona has specific laws in place regarding residential and public pools. For example, residential pools may be required to have a fence around them and the fence must be a certain distance from the water's edge. A failure on the part of the homeowner could lead to him or her being held responsible if an incident or fatality related to the pool is reported. Furthermore, individual cities and counties may have laws on the book regarding swimming pools that homeowners must be aware of.

"While there is no law stating private pools must have signage, many property owners choose to place signs up alerting visitors to the danger of pools. Young children, however, will not benefit from the placement of these signs, and homeowners should take additional steps to make the pool less attractive to these children. For example, pool owners should ensure there are no toys or floating devices present in the pool when it is not in use. Children may see these items and attempt to retrieve them and be harmed as a result of doing so," Zanes, founder of Zanes Law - Tucson, announces.

Another way to boost pool safety is to ensure there is a phone close to the pool. Accidents do happen even when responsible individuals are present to minimize any risk to those using the pool. In the event something does go wrong, having a phone at the pool allows help to be obtained in a shorter period of time, which can be of great importance in certain situations.

"Take steps to ensure the safety of all individuals who use the pool. The more a person does to minimize any risks, the safer the pool will be. Finally, always require two people to be present when someone decides to swim. Even the most experienced swimmer may have difficulty, and the additional person will be there to assist and get help if needed," Zanes recommends.
