In a 2015 article, National Geographic reported there was believed to be roughly 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic debris littering the world's oceans. Some of the mass floated on the surface, approximately 269,000 tons worth. Another four billion plastic microfibers littered each square kilometer of the deep sea. Sadly, these figures have likely risen in the past few years, and Socktopus Ink wishes to change this. They are saving the oceans one sock at a time.
"Each day, roughly eight million pieces of plastic make their way into the ocean, and this pollution is doing harm to our planet. All kid and toddler socks with grips manufactured by the company are made using 100 percent recycled plastic. This demonstrates to the children that a cleaner future is in their hands.
"Plastic bottles are first gathered, sorted, washed, and chopped into flakes. The plastic flakes are taken and put through a state-of-the-art extrusion and texturing process that results in thread suitable for making apparel. The threads are then woven together into proprietary Socktopus designs with lovable characters that children ask to show off," Afsari continues.
