Wellroot Family Services is seeking new foster families in the state of Georgia to meet the overwhelming needs of child placement.

In recent years, the Georgia Foster Care system has been inundated with children in need of foster care. As of February 2019, the State of Georgia had approximately 13,873 children in the foster care system with 1,161 of those being teenagers. Teenagers are the most difficult youth to place in foster homes because of their age. Many individuals and couples who sign up to become foster parents seek younger children over those at more advanced ages.
Brett Hillesheim, a representative of Wellroot Family Services, recently spoke on the problems these children face. "It is heartbreaking to see teenagers stuck in the revolving foster care system, being ushered from one home to the next, with no stability. We typically have to turn down about 40 placements a week, simply because we do not have enough foster parents available to handle the immense need of the foster children in our state. We are reaching out to Georgia citizens and asking them to consider opening their homes and hearts to these precious children."
Those who want to become a foster parent in GA need to go through a qualification process to be approved. There are some age and income requirements, along with family size limitations. When fostering a child, the foster parent must be at least ten years older than the child. There are classes and sources of information available to help interested individuals.
Because this is such a big commitment, agencies like Wellroot Family Services step in to help foster parents and give them the support they need. "We work to make the process of application as easy as possible for individuals and couples. Our goal is to provide the highest level of safety and support to foster care children who have been removed for abuse and neglect. The foster family reimbursement program provides financial help for the care of the child," says Hillesheim.
