American Red Cross Centennial Ball Honors The Walt Disney Company as Humanitarian Company of the Year

The American Red Cross Los Angeles Region commemorated a century of serving the communities in and around Los Angeles by hosting the 2017 Humanitarian Ball at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel last evening. This year, the event honored The Walt Disney Company as the 2017 Humanitarian Company of the Year for its decades of support provided to the American Red Cross.

“This Humanitarian Ball will be a celebration that is talked about for years to come,” said Jarrett Barrios, CEO Red Cross Los Angeles Region. “Attendees showed their support of our humanitarian mission and enjoyed an evening of fellowship and giving, alongside LA’s and the nation’s leading philanthropists, business leaders, elected officials and celebrities.”

During the event, the Red Cross Los Angeles Region presented the Humanitarian Company of the Year Award to The Walt Disney Company in recognition for its decades-long partnership and support of the American Red Cross that began with Walt Disney himself in 1918. Nearly a century later, The Walt Disney Company continues to be a strong supporter of the Red Cross mission by providing generous support of large-scale disaster relief operations and serving as an engaged Annual Disaster Giving Program member. Disney’s contributions allow the Red Cross to prepare for and respond to disasters big and small; as well as increasing youth disaster preparedness exponentially by launching The Pillowcase Project worldwide, a preparedness education program for grades 3 – 5 that teaches students about personal and family preparedness and safety skills.

“Walt Disney started our partnership with the American Red Cross almost a century ago and we’re proud that it continues today. It’s been our privilege to support their efforts to create hope for a brighter tomorrow for thousands of children and families around the world,” said Bob Chapek, Chairman, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.

The Humanitarian Ball was attended by more than 500 guests who enjoyed a live auction and live entertainment. The Red Cross relies on the generosity of its donors and volunteers to accomplish its humanitarian mission and thanks to those who participated, the Humanitarian Ball was able to raise over $1 million for the Red Cross. The evening concluded with an “After Party” sponsored by The Patrón Spirits Company where guests danced to music provided by DJ Amara.

The 2017 Humanitarian Ball was presented by The Walt Disney Company and Wells Fargo.
