Animal Health International Inc., incorporated in May 2005, through its wholly owned subsidiary, Walco International, Inc. and Kane Veterinary Supplies, Ltd., is engaged in distribution of animal health products supplies, services, and technology through operating divisions located throughout the United States, Canada and Taiwan. The Company sells more than 40,000 products sourced from over 1,500 manufacturers to over 65,000 customers, as well as provides consultative services. Products it distributes include pharmaceuticals, vaccines, parasiticides, diagnostics, capital equipment, sanitizers, devices and supplies. Its principal customers are veterinarians, production animal operators and animal health product retailers. It processes daily shipments from its central replenishment and distribution facility located in Memphis, Tennessee and 68 distribution locations located in the United States, Canada and Taiwan. In October 2007, it acquired Kane Veterinary Supplies, Ltd., a distributor of animal health products in Canada.
Products
The products comprise four categories: pharmaceuticals, biologicals, medicated additives and other products. Pharmaceuticals include dosage form medicines employed in disease prevention and treatment programs. Pharmaceuticals, such as antibiotics, anthelmintics, insecticides and implants include over-the-counter products, and ethical products. Biologicals, including bacterial and viral vaccines and antitoxins, stimulate immunity to disease in both production and companion animals. Viral vaccines are used for the control of respiratory and gastrointestinal diseases. Antitoxins provide short-term protection for soil borne and other infections, such as tetanus. Medicated additives include products, such as antibiotics and anti-bacterials, and are used at low levels for growth and efficiency in production animals and, at high levels for therapeutic treatment.
Other products include disposable kits, replacement strips and reagents used in testing all animal species’ body fluids and tissue for disease and/or conditions or in residue testing of animal products. Other products also include a range of blood tests for disorders, such as ehrlichia, feline leukemia, parvovirus, feline infectious peritonitis and feline immunodeficiency virus. Chemicals include sanitizers, cleaning agents, disinfectants, insecticides and rodenticides. Medical supplies are used in cleaning and sanitizing equipment and facilities, as well as diagnostic and suture components, and grooming products, such as brushes and shampoos. The Company markets vaccines, antibiotics, nutritionals and general pharmaceuticals under the RXV Products, AGRIpharm, First Companion, Mineral Max and Ivermax brands.
Consultative services
The Company offers a set of consultative services, software and equipment in addition to providing animal health products. It offers beef cattle computer management systems. Its health management software allows producers to document the health history and treatment costs for each animal. Its accounting software package enables producers to organize financial data for their operations, including information on employees, taxes, commodity costs and transaction records. Other services include microingredient machines, herd health management, dairy technicians, environmental services, logistics services, merchandising services, electronic commerce platform, newsletters and publications, value in purchasing, and promotional material development and disbursement.
