China Sky One Has Another 26 Products Awaiting Approval
China Sky One Medical, with its near-constant barrage of press releases, sometimes seems like an overactive child who always demands attention. On the other hand, the company’s insistent press release schedule is understandable because the company is growing rapidly, its finances are in good order, but investors don’t seem to be paying attention. Bridge Labs announced the FDA accepted its China-developed data for review; Simcere Pharma reported positive interim results from a Phase IV trial of its cancer drug Endu; Roche's Xeloda was granted SFDA approval for gastric cancer, an additional indication; Huifeng Bio-Pharmaceutical Tech will assume control of a medical device company; US-based NeoStem, Inc. placed $1.25 million worth of units with RimAsia Capital Partners; Mindray Medical reported a very solid Q2, the first quarter that reflected its acquisition of Datascope patient monitoring business; Genesis Pharmaceuticals moved higher after completing a 40-to-1 reverse stock split; and China Sky One Medical will list on the NASDAQ Global Market, after just three months on the AMEX. Last week was the high water mark for earning reports from China life science companies. WuXi PharmaTech saw a very solid 80% increase in revenues and 134% jump in net income, though questions remain about its AppTec acqusition; American Oriental Bioengineering announced a huge acquisition and higher revenues; Sinovac Biotech enjoyed a substantial increase in Q2 revenues helped by a one-time purchase for earthquake victims; China Sky One Medical detailed excellent Q2 performance and the projects that will keep the company on a growth path; BMP Sunstone reported a very positive Q2 thanks to the Sunstone acquisition; 3SBio Inc. said revenues rose but net income fell; the revenues for Benda Pharmaceutical’s gene-therapy cancer drug slipped though overall revenues were higher; Tongjitang Chinese Medicines continues to be hurt by counterfeit versions of its flagship product; China Medical Technologies placed $240 million in 4% convertible senior notes, together with an unusual shorting stratagem; China Sky One Medical developed a nasal spray for rheumatic disease; and Schering-Plough bought in the 45% of its majority-owned China JV that it did not already own.
