A Roth IRA is much like a traditional IRA, with one major exception. The difference between a Roth and traditional IRA hinges on when and how much in taxes are paid. Financial planners suggest Roth IRAs, particularly for younger people, because of the lower tax rate.
Traditional IRAs give investors a tax deduction, but only for the year that the contribution is made. Roth IRAs allow investors to contribute money at any given time, after tax money, and then allow for withdrawals of the principal and earnings after retirement, also tax free.
