Professional Vocal Classes Now Offered by True School of Music

Mumbai -- The True School of Music, India’s first comprehensive music academy, has announced a new offering in Vocals, with its unique Pro Vocals course. Pro Vocal classes are aimed at creating a versatile performer. The course enables students to learn different genres of music Rock and Blues, Latin, R&B, Jazz and Funk that enable a musician to use these skills either in session or while on the stage. An understanding of these styles not only helps students in pursuing independent music but also commercial Bollywood and non-Bollywood music.

Julia Leggett, CEO, The True School of Music says “The True School of Music encourages cross-discipline study to give our students a broader skill set and access to a wide range of opportunities within the music industry. Our vocal classes help further than mission.”

The courses can take in students at very basic levels and then progress them to more advance concepts and techniques over three distinct levels of learning.

These classes will help students understand technicalities of the instrument and apply these during performances. For example, Vocal students will understand the body as an instrument and how to control breathing and tone.

By the end of Level one a successful student should be able to identify and recreate the styles and techniques appropriate to the genre being studied (linked to ensemble and History modules) and explore them in extra repertoire pieces, sing all major and minor scales, match their singing pitch to that of any note played to them, develop their posture to facilitate better vocal health through the use of the Alexander technique, practise three point breathing technique to improve singing technique and recognise the different parts of their singing voice and how to use them.

Students will have the opportunity to learn the lead vocals for songs like “Strange Fruit” by Billie Holiday, “That’s Life” by Frank Sinatra, “Heartbreak Hotel” by Elvis Presley and “Where Did Our Love Go” by Diana Ross and the Supremes.

Sietske Roscam Abbing mentors this course. Her teaching incorporates basic physical voice-training techniques that allow the singer to fit with ease in professional contexts, namely Jazz, Rock and R&B including all the modern idioms such as Fry, Screaming, Twang and Belting. Additionally, the technical approach of her program also covers all the typical pathologies of vocal styles that put the vocal chords at risk. Most of all, Sietske's student-focussed approach fosters creativity and the development of  individual style in her students.

An experienced multi-stylistic vocal coach and educator of students all levels and age groups, Sietske is well equipped to train the next generation of India's professional vocalists.

Courses are taught during the weekday, evenings and weekends and are designed to be full time or fit around either work or additional study commitments.
